Tournament Competition Rules

The tournament will be governed by the Official FIFA Futsal Rules which can be found by clicking on the following link. The modifications mentioned below are due to the time constraint we have on the day.

NB: please make sure you read and understand the rules thouroughly, we will not have time on the day to explain the rules to every single team.

A FEW MODIFICATIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS ON THE RULES
The following are the rules which most players struggle to implement on the day.

  1. Games will be 7 minute halves with NO half time break, i.e. a straight swap.
  2. The direct foul limit count per half will be 3 fouls, this will increase to 4 fouls in the semis and final.
  3. The semi finals and Final will have 10 minute halves
  4. The team list will allow up to 10 players per team. NO modifications to the team list will be allowed once the whistle for the first game goes.
  5. THE LEVEL OF CONTACT IN FUTSAL IS VASTLY DIFFERENT COMPARED TO THE OUTDOOR GAME. Any shirt or arm holding is an offence. The only way to win the ball is to win the ball only, there is no “I got the ball first” if you win the ball and take out the man before or after winning the ball you will be penalised by the referees.
  6. A goal can not be scored directly from a kickin, goal clearance, or an indirect free kick
  7. A goal can be scored directly from a kickoff or a corner kick
  8. TALKING back or arguing with referees WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
  9. 2 yellow cards or a red car mean an automatic one match suspension in the following game.
  10. Kick ins and corners: the ball must be stationary on the line and you have four seconds from the moment you place the ball on the line. The opposing players must be 5 meters away from the kick in site
  11. No slide tackling is permitted at all. However a slide block of a shot or sliding to get the ball when no opposition player is in the vicinity is allowed.
  12. Goal difference from the first round will be carried through to the second round.
  13. If 2 teams are tied on points, the following in descending order will be used to decide which teams go through; goal difference, head to head record, goals for, penalty kicks.
  14. In the event of a draw in the semis or final, the game will go straight to penalty kicks
  15. GOALKEEPER TWO TOUCH RULE: in any sequence of play ( be it from a restart of play, general play or a save) the keeper can not touch the ball twice in the same sequence of play unless:
    • The ball is taken over half way
    • The ball is touched by the opposition.
