1 When I turn it on, the screen displays the Cowon logo and then after a while just flashes white and shuts off.
White screen of death? Hm, was the battery almost dead?

2 Only if I plug in a charging adapter or plug it into my PC. It lights up red for the former and orange for the latter.
-I never seen orange...
